Gmail / Yahoo import & invite your contacts!

Today, we launched a new functionality on Whispurr: the possibility to extract your contacts from Gmail and Yahoo Mail!

With these new functionalities, you can:

  1. Import the contacts you have in either Gmail or Yaho
  2. See which of these contacts are already on Whispurr - to follow them or Whispurr with them!
  3. Invite the contacts that are not yet registered to join Whispurr!

How does it work?
  • Click to "Find People" section - you will see the Gmail and Yahoo icons on the right side
  • Click to the icon - and you will be directed to the Gmail or Yahoo page
  • This page is hosted by Gmail / Yahoo and Whispurr doesn't have access to the information you insert there
  • So you can safely insert your login and password - and grant the access for Whispurr to access your contacts (but we don't get your password - privacy is crucial for us)
  • Then, you will be back on Whispurr with all your contacts on the left side of the screen.
What to do once I have my contacts on Whispurr?
  • Select from the list the contacts you wish to invite to Whispurr
  • If you have many contacts, use the pagination below to go through all of them
  • And then simply click on "Send email" to invite your contacts
For some of them, you will see that they are already on Whispurr - you can then decide to follow them if you wish!

How does it work technically speaking?
Whispurr uses oauth to connect to Gmail and Yahoo. This means that when you decide to connect to Gmail, we cannot access to your password information as you confirm them under the Gmail or Yahoo pages. Once you grant the access to Whispurr, Gmail / Yahoo issue a special authorization key to Whispurr to extract your contacts. This authorization is not stored, nor your contact list.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to whispurr with @helpdesk - always here to help!

Why threaded conversations matters?

Whispurr_thread_-_mozilla_fire

Just a quick note about Threaded conversations on Whispurr. As you may know, Whispurr keeps track of the thread of a conversation.

This works like this:
  1. User A sends a post (either public or private)
  2. Other users see the post and replies
  3. Each new replies will be threaded to the original post
Advantages:
This new way of micro-messaging enables messages to be connected to a context - therefore allowing you to better understand what others speak about.

Let's take an example.

  • Alice sends a public message: "Hi, I am looking for someone that can help me in designing my own website."
  • John - a follower of Alice sees this message and replies publicly: "Hi Alice, I can help you.!"
  • Let's take Mike, a follower of John that has no connection with Alice. He sees John message in his Following section - but also Alice original message. Therefore Mike can understand what John referred to.
To see the full thread of a conversation, with all the replies, you simply can click on the link under the message. The thread of a message can evolve in time to create other new threads - when someone replies to a reply message.

Enjoy threads and keep whispurr-ing!

Target suggestion - New feature!

Taget_suggest

Recently, we have implemented a new target suggestion script.

With the suggest script, you can Whispurr much faster and without target mistakes!

How does it work?

  • When you start typing @ or a targeted username such as @abc.., you will see some username suggestions.
  • These are automatically suggested using past messages that you have interacted with or using the list of people you've decided to follow.

It is simple. Every user will have its own contact list that is built automatically as you use Whispurr!

Some very cool new features are on their way too... very soon...

Whispurr Gone Philosophical!

The internet is one of the greatest inventions of the century.  It is a place where no individual needs a visa in order to interact and converse with one another.  Everyone is equal under its domain, and it serves as a source of democracy where truths and opinions about news and events can be freely discussed.  The internet is the one place that individuals have access to that allows them to express their thoughts and concerns without any constraints.

Whispurr was created to further this internet democracy, and provide another channel to pure communication.

Behind the Scenes of the Whispurr Team

From Turkey, to Italy, to America...

Three individuals from three differing countries have come together to create, develop, and implement a free service for the public.  Several years ago, Hakan Guzelgoz (originally from Turkey) has moved to Dublin, Ireland which is where he began a business relationship with Stefano Rocco (originally from Italy).  Guzelgoz, with a masters in applied and financial mathematics, and Rocco, with a bachelor degree in software systems, have combined their strengths in order to produce great services in their fields.  They have worked together as a team in projects prior to Whispurr, and have a friendly, professional, and constructive partnership.

With the collective belief that a joint contribution to a project is the key to success, Guzelgoz and Rocco knew that their passion for a clean social web that respects its users was at their reach.  They believe in simple, yet sophisticated, web applications that allow the user to decide which personal features get exposed to the public.  However, only one vital aspect was missing... a web designer!

Through a referral, Guzelgoz contacted Kerem Suer (originally from Istanbul) who is located out in San Fransisco.  Suer attended Northwest Missouri State University and majored in Interactive Media Visual Design and minored in Photography.  He is a talented designer and a great communicator; Suer’s goal is to create a website design that best reflects his client’s objective.

The three individuals work amazingly, well together, and have successfully created a mode of communication amongst individuals and groups that is easy, fast, and enjoyable...Whispurr!

What's Whispurr?

Social networking sites are the new method individuals use to stay ‘in-tune’.

Whispurr has been designed to serve as the next innovative form of social networking that establishes a communal graph where individuals, or groups, can stay connected to current trends.

How is this network any different than those that already exist?

Whispurr is formatted to allow conversational threads, and its users can take these conversations and forward—refer—them to others.  With the complete launch of the site, there will be four types of messages Whispurr clients can utilize: Public, Private, Friend, and Group.  Public and Private messages will serve as the first two forms that will be implemented in the initial stages of the website.

Public messages occur when an individual, or group, ‘posts’ the information of interest onto a public server where anyone can view and respond to the posted item.  Private messages, on the other hand, occur between specific individuals.  The information in this type of message cannot be seen by the public, and is solely meant for the designated personnel.

Whispurr executes a ‘many to many’ conversational thread that is quick and concise.  Updates and information can be exchanged between Whispurr users, but the users are also able to interact with others regarding the posted information.  Whispurr intends for its clients to rise above the shallow posting of what they were doing at 4:29 pm, and to engage others in thought provoking internet ‘conversations’.

This site generates a new avenue to staying current on global issues and concerns.  Furthermore, this site allows organizations and groups to meet on the internet and successfully discuss issues in an organized fashion as all messages are aggregated and linked.

If you discover something interesting and would like to forward it to friends, family, or the public, sign up with Whispurr and create a discussion regarding your interests.  Follow topics posted by other individuals, and track which topics you post receive the most attention.

Whispurr is a free service that takes our technologically sound world one step closer to unlimited, effective, and quick communication.

Stay current. Right here, right now.
